The fruition of watchfulness revealed in the bride | Elul 22: start Feast of New Oil or ‘Pentecost fully come’

Introduction and article summary *

After reading plentiful resources this week, I believe the Lord’s message to us is both clear and intricate. In this week’s Torah readings we’re revisiting Eden and the life and death choices put before mankind then and in Moses’s days, as we near our passing over into heaven modeled by Joshua, the end of the bride’s travels and travails. The Lord beckons his creation once again to choose life and yield completely unto him, sharing the understanding we are called to be ‘living sacrifices’ and trees matured unto a fruitful harvest of the Spirit. Marked by the Lord’s well known and newly uncovered appointed times, the earth’s altar of coming fiery trials and tribulation has been ritually prepared with wine offerings during the Feast of New Wine last month. This week, after the final 50 day count, the festive annual oil libation known as the Pentecost Feast of New Oil and subsequent new wood offerings will be added to the harvest feast cycle, marking Pentecost being ‘fully come’. Longing for our Blessed Hope, our bodily transformation and birth into heaven, we’re also reminded of the Lord’s birth on September 11th 3BC and circumcision 8 days later and the enemy’s vain attempts to spiritually hijack and cloak these glorious events ever since. 

We see these red threads of prophecy woven into the tapestry of this week’s  Torah readings prescribed by Ezra, the ending harvest cycles of summer crops of wheat, grapes and especially almonds in addition to the coming weeks’ celestial signs. The almond tree’s twofold harvest is proposed to not only form the bookends of the annual Pentecost count and agricultural embodiment of the fruits of the Spirit, I understand the tree to even reflect the Lord’s light and life in the garden of Eden. The article puts forward how the Lord subsequently yielded his life and Spirit to the Father on the almond tree to finish his redemptive work on our behalf.

After the soon finalization of the world’s altar preparation with first new grain and wine and now with new oil and complementary wood offerings, we may await the ‘coals from heaven’ being cast down shortly – the Lord’s first stones of judgment – expected to be directed at the spiritual harlots of Ephraim (USA) and the rulers of Jerusalem, to beckon their inhabitants to draw nigh to him before it’s too late.

The timeframe between the Lord’s birth commemoration and the Day of Trumpets holds many promising reminders of our ‘redemption drawing nigh’, coupled by the Lord’s warning he will turn the spiritual enemy’s feasts into mourning after ‘treacherous dealings’ and ‘moving of boundary stones’ under the guise of ‘peace and security’, to be executed after a future ‘new Moon’ (Amos 8, Hosea 5).

Yielding and cut off summer crops

As summer wheat sheaves are steadfastly bundled in the field, the grape vintage is being bottled to become spirit filled, my eyes rested on the finalizing almond harvest, the fruit of the wakeful tree both us and our Beloved are equated with. Early January this year, when I started writing this blog, the Lord led me to restudy the almond tree through the inspired eyes and hands of Vincent Van Gogh. In thoughtfully penned words and vivid imagery Vincent painted a canvas of how the bride is awakened before other believers unto watchfulness and early fruitfulness matching the almond tree’s growth stages, in perfect alignment with the Lord’s own resurrection.

Little did I know the almond tree’s depth in typological and prophetic meaning, stretching from Genesis to Revelation, had merely been gleaned then and an abundance of revelation lay still dormant. In line with the almond tree’s yielding of two crops, the first is a gentle hearted and softly coated one readied in time of the barley first fruits and one fully ripened containing golden oil and white flower and revealed after bursting out of its skin, this second harvest of typological and prophetic meaning being readied right now would prove to far outweigh the first fruits of study. The harvest proved plentiful and even paradigm shifting to me, unexpectedly so as we’re on the verge of being caught up. So, I’ve decided to share but a basket of almond fruits here, and leave the bulk of edibles in research links below the main text to search matters out ‘Berean style’ at your own discretion.

Let’s revisit the Lord’s beckoning unto watchfulness from our wintery meditations on Tu B’Shevat this year, the celebration of the New Year for the Trees. Enjoying the graceful blossom covering of the early awakening almond tree, I was oblivious to its hidden identity of being the very tree of life in the garden of Eden, even the tree the Lord yielded his own life and Spirit towards the Father. After being clothed in his righteousness, the light and waters of the Word yielded their first ‘abib’ fruits at the time of the barley harvest, the same time our Groom was once offered up as First Fruit. The early rising and shining bride is then called unto watchful and prayerful endurance, for her summer crop stands to endure more than any fruit harvest in the Lord’s orchard, being the last to let go of her fruit.

September has arrived and while the weary bride endures her final trials, testings and tribulations to mature her fruit and steady her within and without, the Lord ‘hastens’ to perform his work ‘at the soonest’ so the Father can send for Him to collect his bride, like Boaz once took care of legal matters at the gate to prepare for his wedding to Ruth after the summer wheat harvest. The Hebrew word for almond and almond tree is shaqed (שָׁקֵדšāqēḏ) [h8247]. The Hebrew word for watching or hasten (KJV) is shoqed (שָׁקַדšāqaḏ) [h8245]. So, the root wording speaks of the bride and groom; while she watches, he hastens. This leads us to the following spiritual application of being watchful, according to the Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains:

  1. To watch, stand guard, i.e., control access into and out of an area or persons that are valuable or notorious, implying care or duty for the object guarded;
  2. Be awake, i.e., not be in a state of sleep when one normally should, implying a nervous or anxious state;
  3. Watch out for, pay attention, i.e., be in readiness and alertness to learn information about an object or situation, implying an action will follow;
  4. Lie in wait, ambush, formally, watch over, i.e., conceal oneself and observe movements until an opportune time to attack;
  5. Be intent, have eager desire, be devoted to, i.e., have a feeling or attitude of earnestness toward a goal, as a figurative extension of carefully watching to learn information, or guarding an object;
  6. Keep ready, be prepared, not hesitate, i.e., be in a state of being primed and set to take an action, as a figurative extension of carefully watching to learn information, or guarding an object.

We shared how the tabernacle Menorah, the light of the temple of pilgrimage, was modeled after the almond tree (Exodus 25:31–39; 37:17–24) which, as my studies led me to conclude, prior graced Eden with the Lord’s light and life. Almond trees reflect the Lord’s beautiful gift of adornment with his grace to us, bringing forth five petalled flowers before its leaves. So with the church; she produces the lovely graces of the Spirit, the power from on high, before their leaves of profession and teaching will be observed. The symbolism teaches us that among watchful, alert believers grace will develop, mature, and bear fruit twice, a process that’s made perfect and complete in our Messiah, the centre root and stem – of Jesse – we’re grafted into and the Holy Spirit, nurturing us from above and all around. He watches over us and his Word to be performed, like the Lord shared with Jeremiah in his vision of a branch of the almond tree which Jeremiah discerned accurately (Jeremiah 1:11-12).

The Righteous Branch mentions how an almond tree’s first fruits are a shadow of Christ, the First Fruit of the resurrection (1 Cor 15:20-23) which grow after a stage of fire shaped flowers (expressing being infilled with the Spirit). They are pollinated by bees, reflecting the Word of God, and nourished through ‘the stem of Jesse’. The root word of the name Deborah who ministered the Word and righteousness, H1692 which comes from the root word “debar” H1696 meaning word, command. If someone does not receive the Lord’s Word or command then they will not produce the fruit of righteousness, justice and mercy. Upon pollination, first fruits begin to emerge from the calyx resembling a flame of fire (just as the almond shaped flames on the golden lamp stand come forth from the “calyx” bowls) and hastily grow over a course of approximately 6-8 weeks (similar to the “omer” count).

These first fruits are referred to as “green almonds”, nutlets or drupes. Though akin to nuts and often wrongly labeled as such, they are fruits indeed. After approximately 6 to 8 weeks, some of the first fruits are harvested by hand (the first harvest). The other fruits remain on the branches so that the seed within matures and grows firm for a duration of seven months, the month we are currently in. The flesh of the almond fruit withers and ultimately bursts in the summer heat (just like our fleshly desires are to wither through the heat of fiery trials and tribulations, see 2 Kings 4:19). All that remains in the end is a single seed filled with golden oil (just like all that should remain in us as we’re emptied of ourselves is the oil of the Lord’s savour and the fruit of his nourishment). In the seventh month after blossoming, the almonds’ husks burst open and the ones most exposed to the sun and wind let go firstly, while others  remaining on lower and inner branches which do not yet yield may be beaten and shaken off for the seed to be gathered in (the second harvest – the ingathering). The seed produced by the sweet almond tree is among the healthiest ‘fruits’ known to man (just as the Word is the healthiest spiritual food to mankind, yielding much spiritual fruit).

Throughout the writings of Moses and the prophets, the Word uses an almond branch to represent Christ. That is why Christ is referred to as a Branch in Scripture … even the Righteous Branch (Jeremiah 23:5, and 33:15, Isaiah 11:1, Zechariah 3:8 and 6:12). The natural almond branch, if held by the Lord’s appointed leader, would be elevated that of a sign unto the people and become and instrument of their God given authority, likened unto a royal scepter.

Our birth into heaven foretold 

Like a woman ready to give birth after watchful endurance, when almonds are ripe to be revealed, the outer skin or husk bursts open to reveal the fruit hidden within. After being born again of the Spirit, the bride’s birth into heaven is expected any day now. Enduring preliminary birth pains and awaiting the Deliverer’s coming – the Power from on high – to remove our current (wine)skins and reveal both himself and his glorious bridal crop  into union with Him, also calling up the innocents. Our glorious and supernatural departure will be a sign unto wayward believers to gear up spiritually and the lost and dying world, beckoning those distant from him to draw nigh and awaken his brethren in Israel most of whom are still spiritually sound asleep.

A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompense to His enemies. Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children (Isaiah 66:6-8).

Zion is represented as a mother in travail. The ‘man child’, as detailed in prior writings, refers both to the Lord, his seed and even the 144.000 glorified harvesters. It is discerned that the ‘nation’ here mentioned by the prophet is the ‘holy nation’ about which Peter wrote in 1 Peter 2:9 they would be “born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God” (1 Peter 1:23-25) at the resurrection. The ‘one day’ foretold by Isaiah could be that long awaited day of ‘Pentecost fully come’, the birthday of the spiritual nation of Israel into heaven. In addition to the ‘power from on high’ we have been instructed to wait for – meaning Jesus, the light of the world coming with dark clouds, thunder and lightning – the predicted ‘noise from the city’ could be attributed to the ‘sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind’.

The ‘voice from the temple’ was likely fulfilled when ‘Peter standing up with the eleven lifted up his voice’ and spoke unto those present in Acts 2:14. The ‘tongues of fire’ coming upon them would be shaped as flames, akin to flaming blossoms having developed into ripe almonds, crowning their heads in the almond tree’s fruit and Menorah lamp lights’ likeness. When they all spoke in different languages, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, they boldly proclaimed the wonderful truth of the gospel and resurrection of the Messiah from the dead (no doubt ‘on fire’) as they were resurrected into eternal life. It was then that a spiritual nation of Israelites was ‘born at once’ after the Lord’s closest friends had already been infilled in the upper room at the evening of his resurrection kickstarting the Pentecost season.

The womb of the church

In the days surrounding the first Pentecost, the disciples were in ‘favor with all the people’ (Acts 2:47) and thus permitted to enjoy the privilege of assembling in the temple like others. So, as the Holy Spirit lit the bodily temples of those present with tongues of fire, the temple of Jerusalem served as the womb for the Ecclesia coming forth, both in the spiritual and the natural.

The synchronicity between the fruit of the womb and the almond tree is also found in the Strong’s Concordance. The root word of H1069 (the first fruits of the crop, the first fruit, hasty fruit) with the number H1069 means: ‘to burst the womb’, that is to bear or make early fruit (of woman or tree). This definition could match the first fruits of the almond tree with barley as priestly first fruit offering, even paralleling in time of ripeness.

The unpicked almond fruits remain on the branches to mature in the heat so the inner core may grow firm, like we are upheld to endure and mature ‘in Christ’. The flesh of the fruit splits open and withers in the summer heat so that all that remains is a sweet, edible seed. No flesh remains. In the seventh month following blossoming, its branches are ready for harvest – the second and final harvest for this tree. Upon its second, late summer harvest the gold covered white fruit resembles the shape of our eyes, a mathematical vesica pisces, like the ‘almond shaped’ eyes of Middle-Eastern and Asian people are often compared to.

When the husk splits, a thick, clear sap flows out, which makes the ‘almond eyes’ look like they are weeping upon their revealing. After breaking forth from their outer skin right before harvest, the flow of sap to the fruit is halted by the tree, to facilitate the fruit’s letting go and yielding unto physical independence in light of the coming seizing by the harvester. Like our typological almond counterparts, we may sense of longing to break free from the flesh and the world, yet feel overcome by grieving due to ties to wayward and unsaved loved ones being loosened as we’re drawn to yield fully unto the Lord for comfort and strength. Experiencing a sense of spiritual dryness and forsakenness is not foreign to many of us right now, yet we’re encouraged to trust the Lord’s finished work in us as we’re filled with his oil and nourishment, promised to sustain us until his coming to lift us up. Our brethren less nourished by the light, nutrients and water of the Word however that consequently lack maturity or willingness to yield on their own, are at risk of being subject to the harvesters which are scheduled to strike, beat and shake the seed loose from the tree. In Israel almonds are harvested before the rains of the winter season start, forming a timeframe border of our expected catching up (Zecharaiah 14:16-19, Ezra 10:9-13).

  • The tree of life in the garden of Eden was an almond tree. Read how Eden and the rapture are connected linguistically.

  • The tree the Lord and the two thieves were crucified on at the descent of the Mt. of Olives is proposed to have been an almond tree as well, grown from Aaron’s rod David planted there. He planted Aaron’s almond rod on the descent of the Mt. of Olives (Psalm 22-23), where Adam was buried (place of the head/Golgotha), where the red heifer was sacrificed, when census and temple taxation took place (note we are called to pray to be accounted worthy). The Mount of Olives is frequently mentioned in the New Testament. Jesus spent much time there with His disciples (Luke 21:37; 22:39; John 8:1). It was there that Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem and prophesied concerning the destruction of the temple, the end of the age, and his second coming (Matthew 24:3; Mark 13:3-4). It was over the Mount of Olives that he road on the donkey foal during His entry into Jerusalem, crossing over the Kidron Valley to the Temple Mount (Matthew 21:1; Mark 11:1; Luke 19:29, 37). Jesus spent his last night on the Mount of Olives prior to his arrest (Matthew 26:30; Mark 14:26; Luke 22:39). And he was crucified, buried, and resurrected on the Mount of Olives (Hebrews 13:11-13). His ascension into Heaven was also from the Mount of Olives, at Bethany (Luke 24:50-52; Acts 1:9-12) after first being offered unto the Father at his resurrection after he met Mary Magdalene at the tomb.
  • The almond’ tree’s budding and blossoming branches refer to the concepts of ‘abib’ and ‘faithful witnesses’, as revealed in Song of Solomon’s plain text and its root words (Song of Solomon 6).
  • The association with cutting off a branch ‘of the goodly tree’ and bringing the first fruits thereof to the priest is also found in the root wording in Leviticus 23:10-40. 
  • The Righteous Branch from the stem and root of Jesse was the faithful, sweet hearted Seed of the Word. Indeed, our heavenly Sweetheart. Unlike us, Jesus did nothing of his own desire; his heart yielded completely to the Father. Pollinated by the Father’s commands, he guarded and watched over his Word and those entrusted to him with perfection. Yet, he was stricken, beaten, shaken and crushed, like the fate of the bulk of the summer almond harvest who may not easily let go of the world and yield fully unto the Lord as the first fruits do. Though the Lord’s flesh died (as the flesh of the almonds is separated from the fruit at the end of the summer) it was unto his resurrection as First fruit.
  • Almonds represent God’s covenant to fulfill all that He has promised. He accomplishes his promises by his Spirit, or: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit’ (Zechariah 4:6).
  • The bride is likened to an almond tree (Proverbs 3:18), the watchful and humble tree. With the exception of the few weeks of blossoming, the almond tree has no comeliness. The heat of trials and tribulations, the baptism by fire, wither our flesh/sinful desires. At the final harvest, all that remains is a single seed, full of oil and nourishment. The seed is the Word of God; the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed,’ meaning one person, who is Christ. 
  • God is going to present to Jesus a bride that is without spot or blemish (Ephesians 5:26-27). This does not happen through human effort. Quench not the Spirit’s fire. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (I Thessalonians 5:19-23, KJV). Our sanctification starts by responding and submitting to the Holy Spirit and acquainting ourselves with his Word. We then begin to obey His commandments and serve in the Kingdom. He will cause the Bride to blossom and shine at just the right time.
  • We can see from the story of Esther how she was instructed to keep her spiritual and national identity concealed and protected, until just the right time. At our present time, the Bride is likewise hidden, being formed by the Godly character she is allowing God to bring forth in her. She is concealed from the darkening world, even unto its complete rejection as her light sets her apart. Just as Esther’s identity was concealed until just the right time, so will the true bride of Christ be concealed until she blossoms before the entire world. (Source)

This week’s Torah Portion, entitled: Nitzavim, commanded to be read by the scribe and prophet Ezra, points both to the revisitation of the trees in the garden and Joshua as almond branch holder, confirming the relevance and timeliness of this topic. In tandem, the march on Jericho Joshua and the people are being prepared for, is re-enacted during the feast of Tabernacles.

In this Torah portion, Moses – before yielding his branch to Joshua – once again addresses the people in the valley of decision, including the rebellious and those that hardened their hearts against the law, reminding them of their vital role to ‘choose life over death’ and should they find themselves enveloped in adversity and under curses, how to gain insight where things went wrong as God foretold the people would once again stray from him even those entering in the promised land under Joshua and Caleb (a type of the bridegroom and gentile bride), recorded in the Song of Moses beautifully explained here

They merely observed, ‘Since we’re grumblers (and we have no intention of changing our tune) we’re all going to die!’ But God’s heartfelt intention was that they would not die. They were being given the opportunity to live—and live well in abundant blessings:

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving Yahweh your God, obeying His voice and holding fast to Him, for He is your life.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).

The timing and weight of decision making resembles not only Adam and Eve upon their exit from Eden having made their decision towards sin, and those under Moses and then Joshua just before entering into the promised land, but ours too, as Moses foreshadows tribulation unto death to those that reject the Lord’s love and truth then AND now.

As a the author from Fresh Oil Releases shared on Joshua’s mindset after crossing over: “Joshua had been in the fire, probably for a good long season. He had become familiar with its fiery atmosphere and the dealing with the dross, even if he can’t see much except flames. Now suddenly he is standing before the Angel of the Lord, who is Jesus. He is in a totally different spiritual location, and what’s more, he can clearly see Satan standing right next to him to accuse him. Joshua’s spiritual eyes have been opened to a whole new spiritual location. He is a brand plucked from the fire but he is aware of the filthy state of his clothing, the close proximity of the Lord and satan. How vulnerable and exposed he would have felt. And he can see exactly what satan is doing. Joshua is experiencing disorientation. He does not know this location and how to deal with it. He has been used to repenting and releasing dross and yet in spite of all that spiritual homework he did, he is still not very presentable and now he is face to face with Jesus and it’s too late to get ready anymore!! There is nothing he can do, in spite of everything he can see.

Remember how during the ministry of John, the people had to repent and bear fruit and voluntarily follow through on what John was preaching in order to be prepared? But John explained that when Jesus came, HE would clean His threshing floor. HE would winnow. He would store the grain in the barn. He would ignite unquenchable fire on the chaff. This signified a profound change of season. The Bride makes herself ready but when the Bridegroom appears, the preparations come to an end. The state you are in is the state He sees you in. There is no more preparation time left and no doubt, like Joshua, the High Priest, we may feel woefully ill-dressed for the occasion. And it seems the close proximity of satan only aids his assignment to point fingers at us.

I discovered something interesting. The word translated ‘accuse’ means to ‘resist, oppose, accuse’ and is written ‘satan’! Yes, you read that right… His very name embodies his character. He is positioned at your right hand (the side without a shield in battle) and he is gunning for your vulnerabilities, seemingly unphased by the presence of the Lord. But how good it is to know that the scripture in Psalms is true – God is your shade at your right hand. He is your defense. You don’t need to come up with an explanation in this place of feeling so vulnerable and disorientated. Jesus is your defence and He rebukes satan! Most of Elul will be taken up with disorientation from the old chapter and the beginnings of recalibration. We do not realise how deeply we are bonded to the old spiritual space. We have been in it so long… but like Esther who had a whole year of preparation and overnight found herself in a very different location and station, so too, the Lord has this planned for His faithful remnant.

It is a work of Heaven on behalf of a bondservant with whom He is well-pleased. The dove descending and remaining on Jesus signifies a fullness of the Spirit apportioned him as He is acknowledged as the Son of God. In the same way, there is a fullness of the Spirit coming for the faithful remnant.”

Power from on high……

Nitzavim: these Torah readings revisit our beginning in Eden and the transference of authority (manifest in the almond rod) from Moses to Joshua. The people standing before the Word of God embodied by Moses awaiting their ‘crossing over’ are once again impressed to ‘choose life over death, heavenly blessings over earthly curses and great tribulation’ and invited into a divine covenant, like the Lord invites us into.

We also recall how Joshua stood before the ‘Word in the flesh’ and our adversary prior to the charge on Jericho where he was endowed with kingly robes, a picture of our upcoming gathering unto the Lord prior to the expected rescue mission of the types of ‘Rahab and her household’ and ‘Lot’s loved ones’ before sudden destruction kickstarts the tribulation.  What a glorious promise!

  • 17 Elul | Noah dispatches a dove for the second time; it returns with an olive branch. There are two methods of counting.
  • 22 Elul | Start of the Pentecost Feast of New Oil (or Pentecost ‘fully come’) | Feast of priestly ordination | Libation of the altar with oil, followed by communal drinking and prayer for a plentiful harvest. Together with the start of the Feast of Wood offering the next day, we may concluded this was a 7 days feast.

Feast of new Oil: 100 days after the new grain offering | 50 days after new wine offering | Counting 50’s

Two preliminary methods of calculation:

  • The 50 day count from the summer Pentecost Feast of New Wine (calculated to have been July 20th this year, would lead result in September 8th if 50 days are added from then).
  • The Essene new wine festival (Av 3, or July 23-24 this year on Torah Calendar plus 50 days leads to September 11th-12th).

A second witness | The Qumran Scrolls refer to a fixed date of 22 Elul for the Pentecost Feast of New Oil (September 10-11 this year). This date is most firmly supported IMO, see below.

According to the Qumran scrolls, the feast of new oil was called ‘Pentecost of new oil’ and held on Elul 22. As it is referred to as oil from fresh fruits, this could be almond oil.

A second source presents confirmation found in the book of Jubilees, stating the three Pentecost feasts of grain, wine and oil were required to be held each year:

This ordinance is written that it may be fulfilled from year to year in eating the second tithe before the Lord in the place where it has been chosen, and nothing shall remain over from it from this year to the year following.
For in its year shall the seed be eaten till the days of the gathering of the seed of the year, and the wine till the days of the wine, and the oil till the days of its season. And all that is left thereof and becomes old, let it be regarded as polluted: let it be burnt with fire, for it is unclean. And thus let them eat it together in the sanctuary, and let them not suffer it to become old.

The four feasts of first fruit explained | The believer fruition into maturity from barley … to wheat … to wine …. and to oil

The video below explains the four feasts of first fruit from the Old and New Testament, focussing on the believer’s maturing path by the infilling and working of the Holy Spirit in and through us from the barley (and almond) first fruits offering towards the intense effort and costliness of the first fruits offering of processed oil at the Pentecost Feast of New Oil.

Hebrews 6:1 describes this spiritual maturing process, representing the fulness of the Spirit and becoming part of the order of kings and priests, the Lord’s priestly order of Melchizedek.

Revelation 6:6 informs us the oil and wine (priests and kings) are not to be hurt after the rapture: And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

The oil and trees offered during the Feast of New oil and Trees, when ‘Pentecost is fully come’, represent those who will rule with Christ and minister life and healing to the nations, having laid their own lives on the altar as living sacrifices (Revelation 22:2). This article includes a portion on Mary Magdalene, a type of the end times watchful bride of Christ, her faithful endurance and costly offering of complete outpouring, as she remained watchful until the end, transitioning into a new beginning.

23 Elul | Feast of Wood Offering (6 day festival) right after the new oil had been offered| Nehemiah 10:34 | The consecutive wood offerings were stated to have been portioned among rich families according to (Sanhedrin) Taanit 26 a, but set on fixed dates for all people according to Qumran’s scroll during a 6 day festival. I hold more value to the latter account.

Herewith, please find some research notes on 623 coding. The spiritual context of this enemy signaling is the Lord’s birth on September 11th, 3BC at sundown, 5:53 local time. As the enemy desires to usurp the Lord’s identity and authority, let us take into account they will once again attempt to overshadow and mimmick the Lord’s birth and circumcision pattern to birth usher their new world order and leaders unto the world stage. The prophetic implication of this pattern could be that after the 9/11 birthing pattern and ritual preparation and ‘firing up’ of the worldly altar, a picture of circumcision of the flesh (and naming) on the eighth day after 9/11 could be in play. The eighth day after 9/11 leads us to the expected new Moon sighting preceding Yom Teruah, the Day of Trumpets.

By that time we can also consider the prophesied departure of the David bride type (the type of 144.000 end times harvesters) scheduled to take place before the enemy’s new Moon banquet celebration at the time of a ‘yearly feast back home’ David was called to attend, as instructed by his older brother (type of our banquet in heaven by invitation of our ‘older brother’ in the Lord, Jesus). This scenario concerning David’s pre new Moon departure at the stone of Ezel (meaning ‘departure’ in Hebrew) is written out at the conclusion of this article.

24 Elul 351 B.C. | God awakened the spirit of Zerubabel and Yehoshua ben Yehotzadok to begin the work of building the Second Temple (Haggai 1). The people began clearing the site, hewing wood and cutting stones.

24 Elul in 2010 | The date of the Christchurch EQ on September 4th, 2010. Many Christians recognized that the Christchurch EQ was a herald to the Church that the Rapture is near as well as sudden destruction for the world as well as the fact that there were no fatalities from such a large EQ was noted by many watching believers.

25 Elul 335 BC | Day 153 of the Pentecost count implying fulness |  Jerusalem’s walls (rebuilt by Nehemiah) are finished after 52 days (representing a solar year of 52 weeks). On Elul 29 the first watch was conducted from the wall. The dedication of the wall took place on Tishri 1 (Source) when Ezra and Nehemiah gathered the people at the Watergate to teach them Torah for two days (Nehemiah 8) and instructed them to make booths, the first time since Joshua’s days. Summarizing earlier studies on the importance of the wall being finished, prophetically: in Nehemiah 6:15 we read: ‘So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days’, which we understand to mean the finishing of the Holy Spirit’s work in and through us from this previous article, as well as the bride of Christ forming the building blocks of the heavenly Jerusalem as found in 1 Peter 2:5 ‘Ye also as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ’, confirmed in Revelation 21:9-10 ‘Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. On Rosh Hashana, each person’s allotment of life and livelihood is subject to renewal.

  • The Talmud (oral tradition) says that on Rosh Hashana, God answered the prayers for children of  Sarah, Rivka, Rachel, Leah and Chana; on this day Sarah became pregnant with Yitzchok (Isaac), Rachel with Yosef (Joseph) and Chana with the prophet Shmuel (Samuel), respectively. (Sarah’s story is the Torah reading on the first day of Rosh Hashana, and Chana’s story is the Haftorah.)
  • It is considered the sixth day of Creation in the same oral tradition, when Adam and Eve were created.
  • 1 Tishri 2105 B.C. | According to Rab’ Eliezer Noach dispatched a dove from the Teivah / Ark for the third time. When the dove did not return, Noach knew that the waters had completely drained from the earth. On that day Noach removed the roof of the ark; but he, his family remained in there for another 57 days, until the 27th of Cheshvan.

The hidden meaning behind Tzom Gedaliah and prophetic ties to the Abraham Accords

Please first watch this short video clip on the hidden meaning behind Tzom Gedaliah, the first leader appointed by the Babylonians to restore the people of Judah, forging an alliance with Ishmael, who ensnares, traps and kills him and his followers, subsequently leading the wounded flock to the slaughter. Gedaliah pursued his political plans to secure his position and the material peace and security of his people by his own power and might, not by abiding by the Spirit and Word of God, and progressed despite having been warned of the evil intent of the covenant’s co-signers, to his and his blinded and wounded followers’ great peril.

The video clip details why this account also functions as a repetition of Joseph’s enslavement and the treacherous role of his older brothers, rooting back as far as the brotherly contention between Abraham’s first born son in the flesh, Ishmael (from Hagar) and the first born of God, Isaac (from Sarah). The binding of Isaac, commemorated on the Feast of Trumpets as shared above, foreshadows the Lord’s sacrifice on the cross. Scripture offers redemption of both Joseph’s brothers as well as the people of Ishmael, in Christ.

Back to Gedaliah and its proposed second fulfillment. A prophetic second fulfillment of the Gedaliah account would form a culmination of the manipulated division and conflict of the lumped together ‘people of the Book’. Pitting Islam against the Jewish faith, skillfully entangling evangelical ‘churchianity’ in the process (a classic Hegelian style ‘thesis-antithesis-synthesis’ or ‘problem-reaction-solution’ structure) to further the desired outcome of Chrislam, condoned or even endorsed by Laodicean christian support troops, the traditional political right and other ‘political zionism’ favorers. The age old geopolitical ‘grand scheme’ is designed to take its treacherous leadership down with the sinking ship of division. The picture of Virgo is that of a woman with a shock of wheat in her left hand and a branch in her right hand. The brightest star in the constellation is located in the seed of the wheat. The star is called Spica, a Latin word meaning “the branch.” Along with the branch in her right hand, we are reminded of Isaiah 4:2: “In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious.” This is the Branch foretold by the star Al Zimach in the ear of corn. The star β is called Zavijaveh, which means the gloriously beautiful, as in Isaiah 4:2.

Acubene in Hebrew and Arabic means ‘sheltering’ or ‘hiding place’, a place of safety and security, resonating with Psalm 32:7’s hiding place, confirming we may rest in the Lord’s pavilion in our spiritual chambers.

Scenario | David’s proposed departure before the sighted new Moon

The new Moon significance, the expected departure of the bride (in type) in light of the enemy’s first strike against his own offspring, within the context of both a two day new Moon celebration AND a hidden yearly feast (proposed to be Pentecost fully come (Feast of New Oil and subsequent wood offerings, extending into the Feast of Trumpets) is beautifully detailed in the account of David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel 20. Let’s take a look if it speaks to us today and resonates with the timing of the upcoming new Moon, either to be sighted September 18th or 19th……

The enemy’s ‘first strike’ against his own on the second day of the feast (proposed to be the second day of the Feast of Trumpets). David and Jonathan meet again on the third day (the day after the two day Feast of Trumpets) at the time and place appointed and according to David’s expectations whereafter they parted ways permanently

Time clues

The new moon introduced the new month that the Israelites celebrated with a two day meal as the Moon could be left unsighted the first day. It was both a religious and a civil holiday (Numbers 10:10; Numbers 28:11-15; cf. 2 Kings 4:23). David would normally have been present at the king’s table since he was one of Saul’s high-ranking military officers. However, David evidently believed that Saul would try to kill him again if he ate with the king (cf. 1 Samuel 18:11; 1 Samuel 19:10-11).  He foreknew he would have to depart from the court and the one he trusted (Jonathan) who as of yet lacked discernment concerning the intent of David’s enemy, king Saul (Jonathan’s Father). Thus, the bride type is absent from the worldly king’s table (proposed to be in spiritual training for final Lot/Rahab style rescue missions).

David proposes a test (1 Samuel 20:7) to convince Jonathan (not having been given full discernment) that Saul really intended to kill David of which Jonathan was not fully aware. The covenant David refers to in verse 16 was the one he and Jonathan had previously made (1 Samuel 18:3-4). This is a prophetic type of salvation and betrothal they would later confirm and thus a type of the rapture and wedding in heaven when there is a confirmation of that initial covenant. David appealed to it and asked Jonathan to kill him himself if he must die, rather than allowing Saul to do it. David wanted to die at the hand of his friend rather than at the hand of his enemy.

An interesting exchange between worldly authority and spiritual authority is played out. While David was willing to submit to Jonathan’s civil and military authority as king Saul’s Son, Jonathan understood and submitted David’s kingly anointing and future position as king thus he asked him to safeguard his family in the future.

The two friends now agree upon the sign. Jonathan was to shoot three arrows at this stone, Ezel (means stone of departure/separation, see more below), as his mark, and was then to send his servant to gather them up. When he had gone some distance Jonathan was to shout to him, loud enough for David to hear. If Jonathan said that the arrows were on that side the mark, i.e. between it and Jonathan, David was to come forth boldly, as all was well. But if Jonathan said that the arrows were further on, then David must understand that he was to seek safety in flight. The boy (lad) partook, but was not aware (likely representing those not fully spiritually accountable). The true nature of the meeting and the coming departure was only known to Jonathan and David.

The yearly feast back home  the appointed time

Recall how David (his name means beloved, he points to the bride) speaks of being summoned by his eldest brother Eliab (his name means ‘God is my father’; a type of Jesus as our older brother) to celebrate a yearly feast his family celebrated in Bethlehem as an explanation of his absence. I propose this was the Pentecost Feast of New Oil and subsequent wood offerings, transitioning into the Feast of Trumpets, derived from multiple prophetic types in this narrative, such as:

  • David strategically withdrawing himself out of self preservation and imminent enemy attack (like the rapture is a strategic withdrawal of the Lord’s beloved, his ambassador brides, the 144.000 gentiles to be transformed and work the end times harvest)
  • the covenant being confirmed with the future kingly order, initiated by the covenant maker (Jonathan) as a type of Christ, and
  • David hiding in the fields (standing corn at the time of a yearly feast, proposed to be summer wheat) and departing the third day (resonating with many third day wedding patterns)
  • Together, David and Jonathan embody the church of Philadelphia or ‘brotherly love’, knit together by the Lord in the Spirit.

The numbers 237 and 235

So, in 1 Samuel 20:19 where David and Jonathon arrange to meet at the stone Ezel (H237) In the previous verse, Jonathon says to David, “Tomorrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty”

  • H237: Ezel = departure. David (beloved) is gone before the New Moon which we await tonight or will be established by default tomorrow if not visible. Now, let’s go to the Greek where we see a reference to ‘the thief’ coming another way.
  • G237: allochothen = some other way, from another place.
    These 2 words #237 in the Hebrew and Greek only appear once each in the Bible.

“G237 only appears in JOHN 10:1 where Jesus refers to the antichrist and the mode of his coming in “some other way” or alternatively “from some other place”. This links in the JOHN 10 narrative in a further way and the use of the # 237 points to the OT text which gives a specific day that a “departure” happens.

Later in the chapter, 1 SAMUEL 20:39 it says this “But the lad knew not anything: only Jonathan and David knew the matter”

If we take the highlighted phrase and write it according to the Hebrew words and their meanings we have :- (JONATHAN) “Jehovah has given” (DAVID) “Beloved” knowledge of the matter.”

Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” 

We read how the Father has given the Beloved (the bride) knowledge on the matter, corresponding with the verse in Matthew 24:42:

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come”

The verse implies we will know if we do watch.

Luke 12:39 – “And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.”

Revelation 3:3 “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold that, and repent. If therefore thou shall not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.”

Now that two of these verse above include mention of the thief, and many of these verses say to watch, knowing he will come through ‘another way’ as well. So, none of the verses say that no Christian during the end times will ever know, or that we will be in darkness regarding the coming… In fact, the exact opposite is implied by Revelation 3:3, namely that if we watch, we should know the prophetic season and time and not be surprised by the thief (Luke 12:39).

Today, we are able to determine the appearance of the “New Moon” over Jerusalem through astronomic computer calculation, though Scripture requires a double witness sighting from Jerusalem, often disregarded by calendar makers and keepers. This is why in ancient times the new Moon feasts were a two-day event. The “new Moon” becomes visible over Jerusalem when the crescent reaches an approximate 3-5-degree visibility in the early evening following the setting of the Sun, depending on other conditions of course. If it’s not sighted the first day, the new month starts the next day by default.

“Throughout the Word of God, heat is a parable for trials, testing and tribulation. The heat of a refiner’s fire separates the precious gold and silver from the impurities within; then the precious gold and silver are molded and shaped to the refiner’s desire. It is written that our Refiner will refine us as silver and test us like gold (Isa 1:25-27; Isa 48:10, 18-19; Jer 9:1-14; Zec 13:1-9; Psa 66:10; Mal 2:17-3:6). Such refining involves a type of heat. Around the time of Christ, the Spring Equinox Point lay between the constellations of Aries and Pisces, moving backwards out of Aries the Ram and into Pisces the Fish at the knot in the cord – Alrisha (Al Rischa). Hence Christ is associated with the closing of the Arian Age and the dawn of the Piscean Age. The precession of the equinox point into Pisces inaugurates … “an age in which the ‘fish’ was used as a name for the God who became a man, who was born as a fish and was sacrificed as a ram, who had fishermen for disciples and wanted to make them fishers of men, who fed the multitude with miraculously multiplying fishes, who was himself eaten as a fish, the ‘holier food’, and whose followers are little fishes, the ‘pisciculi’. This is the Branch foretold by the star Al Zimach in the ear of corn.

The star β is called Zavijaveh, which means the gloriously beautiful, as in Isa. iv. 2. The star ε, in the arm bearing the branch, is called Al Mureddin, which means who shall come down (as in Ps. lxxii. 8), or who shall have dominion. It is also known as Vindemiatrix, a Chaldee word which means the son, or branch, who cometh.

Nehemia’s last gate

Nehemiah’s last gate was the Miphkad or inspection and census gate, where the sheep were counted before entry (Nehemiah 3:31). This is the final gate. Today, the Lion’s Gate (sometimes misnamed the Sheep Gate) stands where the Inspection Gate was located. For believers, it could represent the Judgment Seat of Christ – a time when we will be called upon to give an account of our lives, where we will (or not) be accounted worthy.

Mary Magdalene, the Tower of the Flock at the time of the Lord’s  beginning and the watchful end times ‘bride of Christ’ awaiting his return

I understand Mary Magdalene to be a type of the end times watchful ‘bride of Christ’ who – responding to his winter call to rise from spiritual dormancy and be clothed in grace like the almond tree’s early blossoms – remains watchful to the utmost, hence partaking in his suffering, after having been fully delivered (of seven demons, 7 implying fulness) and infilled unto a double harvest of fruitfulness. Her name points to an almond (migdol) and the ‘tower of the flock’ where Jesus was born (see detailed in the beautiful article below), the watchtower where the sacrificial lambs for the temple were born and cared for. She anointed the Lord’s feet from her loving devotion and prophetic insight he was the MESSIAH to be crucified and she was an ‘apostle to the apostles’. As such, she represents the oil and wood offerings of ‘Pentecost fully come’.

In order for the end times ‘bride of Christ’ to be able to testify of the RISEN Lord – the full revelation of Christ – like Mary at the garden tomb, she would have had to ‘heard his voice’ when he called her unto salvation and into relationship with him, developing into an knowing of Him and early fruitfulness, towards fully trusting to walk in an eternal relationship with Him transcending natural boundaries and appearances, even overcoming death. Him calling her personally in her deepest mourning at the tomb after the final remainder of her past relationship with him had been removed, her ‘hearing ears’ prompted her eyes to be lifted up to his and she was re-membered unto him anew and eternally.

In order for her to not cling to him at the time of his revelation in the garden – as he instructed – she would have had FAITH that transcended not only her deep mournful desire for her beloved to physically remain close to her, but even surpass space and time boundaries itself. She would have had to lovingly surrender unto him and let him go, trusting his faithfulness and promises to her he would both ‘be with her always’ as well as one day after his earthly departure physically return to her, to finalize her redemption at which time she would become his eternal bride.

As he hastens, she watches

Like the divine portion of the almond tree’s name, he would HASTEN the fulfillment of the first portion of this promise to her and the gathered disciples in the upper room that same night when he breathed on them, infilling them with the Holy Spirit and Comforter. As Mary had been completely delivered prior (of seven demons, denoting a full or complete deliverance) she would have been infilled by the Spirit to the fullest, resonating with Pentecost being ‘fully come’ during the Feast of Oil at the time of the almond tree’s fullest fruitfulness. As her Lord ‘takes of matters’ at the heavenly gate (like Boaz did for Ruth) and has ‘gone to prepare a place for her in his Father’s house’, she – in response – watches faithfully for his return, prayerfully towering over the lambs of his flock and others seeking shelter. 

She’s the metaphorical watchtower embodiment, once sheltering the birth of Jesus himself as well as caring for the birthing testimony of him in believers just having come to faith extending outwards by proclaiming the Good News of the resurrected, eternal body of Christ to both believers and the world at large. The name Madgal-eder (Micah 4:8-10) meaning “tower” or “stronghold of the flock,” infers that Mary of Magdala is a stronghold of the church.

What company of people does Mary Magdalene typify? I believe that Mary Magdalene is a prophetic picture of the end-time church as a whole. The church is called the bride of Christ (2 Cor 11:2 Ephesians 5:25-27, Rev. 19:7).

Mary Magdalene was a woman likely to have been roughly the same age as Jesus. Because of the surname “Magdalene,” most have assumed that it merely indicated that she was from the town of Magdala on the west shore of the Sea of Galilee. The word “magdala” however, is derived from an Aramaic word meaning “tower,” “great “or “elevated.” Thus Magdalene could be a surname descriptive of her character or ability. Luke 8:2 says that she was “called Magdalene.” That’s not necessarily to say that she was from Magdala.

Luke 8:2 also mentions that Mary had been delivered of seven demons. This speaks of a complete deliverance. We in the church(who are genuinely born-again and have truly repented from sin) are completely forgiven of all sin. By the way, the teaching popular in medieval times that Mary had been a prostitute has no basis in scripture or in early church historical sources.”

Summer harvest references in Scripture

Scriptures on Pentecost pointing to the summer wheat harvest overlapping the fruit and oil first fruits like the bread, wine and oil of the Lord’s supper.

Proverbs 10:5 
He that gathereth in SUMMER is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in “HARVEST” is a son that causeth shame.

Notice the connection with summer and harvest. We know the wise will be raptured and escape all things, while the spiritually sleeping or slumbering run the risk to be left behind with the unbelievers to be rudely woken up and partake in hs judgement.

Isaiah 16:9 
Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy “SUMMER” fruits and for thy HARVEST is fallen (shouting for summer harvest not spring harvest). 10 And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the VINEYARDS there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no WINE in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.

Notice here the summer fruits of the harvest AND the wine are connected. Remember the prophecy in Joel 2 teaches the floors would be full of wheat in the wine presses full of wine when the Holy Spirit (oil) was poured out.

Proverbs 26:1 
As snow in “Summer”, and as rain in “Harvest”, so honor is not seemly for a fool.” 

Isaiah 17: 5-6
And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim. 6 Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the Lord God of Israel.

Notice here, the harvester personally involves himself in the harvest, gathers the wheat in the valley and what’s left of the grapes and olives he left in the valley which proves the grapes and olives were ripe before the end of the harvest; he just didn’t go back and glean them.

Jeremiah 40:10-12: 

As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye WINE, and SUMMER FRUIT, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken. 11 Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan; 12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered WINE AND SUMMER FRUITS VERY MUCH.

The Canaan wheat harvests take place in the dry season; rain in that season seldom or never falls, but if it does it is usually severe. This is the testimony of one who spoke as a resident, and his statement is confirmed by the observations of the latest travellers and scholars. The terrible storm of rain accompanied with thunder, at a time of year when these storms of thunder and rain rarely took place, coming, as it did, in direct answer to the seer’s invocation, struck the people naturally with great fear, and for the moment they thoroughly repented of the past, and entreated Samuel—who, they felt, stood on strangely familiar terms with that awful yet loving Eternal—to intercede for them and recognizing the people’s need for repentance and instruction.

Israel’s people offended God when they demanded a king for their nation. They were not trusting God to defend them, and they were not accepting his rule over their lives. That was why Samuel asked God to act against them. They needed to see clearly that they had acted wrongly.

The harvest is past, the “summer” is ended, and we are not saved. 

This verse shows that the harvest (tied to being saved, manifestation of redemption) was in the summer, not spring.

John 4:35
…say not ye, there are yet four months then cometh the harvest 

The summer wheat harvest is planted in spring, 4 months prior as opposed to the winter wheat harvest which is planted in the seventh month and is harvested in the spring. It is agriculturally impossible for winter wheat to mature in four months.

Micah 7:1 

What misery is mine! I am like one who gathers summer fruit at the gleaning of the vineyard; there is no cluster of grapes to eat, none of the early figs that I crave. 2 The godly have been swept from the land; not one upright man remains.

The early figs are refered to in Solomon as rapture indicator just as in Matthew 24

Mat 24:32 

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer [is] nigh 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, [even] at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The nation of Israel is specifically likened to grapes and figs:  “I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time ….”  Hosea 9:10.

Amos 8 gives us an account of judgment after a new Moon, like Hosea 5:5-7 relays how the new moon will devour them (the execution of judgment on Ephraim/USA and the rulers of Jerusalem) after ‘treacherous dealings’ and moving of ‘boundary stones’ under the guise of ‘peace and security’ like we’ve seen formalized by parties in question recently.

Havlicek spent 15 years researching and studying more than 900 of van Gogh’s letters. His enlightening book dispels many of the myths that surround the painter’s turbulent life. “Vincent’s letters portray a very different story than the popular tale of the mad artist who cuts off his ear,” Havlicek notes.

Numerous letters reveal the painter’s strong Christian identification. “Many of his religious letters were held back and only released in the last five or six years,” Havlicek says.

While some art critics believe van Gogh lost his faith in 1885, the year he was driven out of his family home, Havlicek disagrees. “I don’t think he lost his faith, but I think he lost his faith in the church.”

Indeed, many of van Gogh’s most Christ-oriented paintings were completed in the last three years of his life, in 1888-1890. “Van Gogh’s interest in the Gospel is very profound,” Havlicek says. His paintings, The Good Samaritan, The Raising of Lazarus, Pieta, The Sower, The Sheaf Binder (or harvester) all display Christ-centered themes.

“He loved the idea of resurrection,” Havlicek notes. “It is funny that Van Gogh was listening to cicadas that were in the trees when he was working on this painting,” he says.

The cicada lifecycle resembles a type of resurrection. The cicada larvae remains suspended until it dries in the sun and its exterior hardens. Then it falls to the ground and is buried in the soil. It may spend several years underground until, one day in early summer it emerges, sheds its outer body shell, and flies away.”

    I cannot emphasise how much I’ve learned . The 23rd of Elul was of extreme importance connecting a word i was given back in 2018. All the pieces fit together and am a bit stunned at what it must be like to have a mind like yours. We’re so lucky to have access to this research.
